Weekly Dispatches 23 June 17

Hi all

Hope you have all had a good week. I have been hearing how cold it is in Canberra.  My husband keeps sending me photos of the ice on his windscreen.  And then it is getting quite warmish in the Middle East where our Heroes are. Such a world of contrasts in so many ways. Just like our quilts and laundry bags, no two the same and so many different styles.

Enjoy the show and tell tonight!

So far for 2017 we have sent off 1647 laundry bags
which brings us to a total of 14704 since we started...

and...

We have also sent 934 quilts
bringing our total since we started to over 7,574 quilts

From Fay and the Toowoomba Qulters Club (more on these ladies later....)

Toowoomba Quilters Club Inc. was formed almost 33 years ago and we meet each Tuesday and on 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. Each Tuesday, we average about 60 ladies who quilt, knit, crochet, embroider or just enjoy the company of like-minded people.

Prior to Anzac Day, our President suggested making Aussie Hero Laundry bags on Anzac Day which of course fell on a Tuesday. That very same day, we were given Aussie icon fabrics which of course were perfect to jazz up the bags. That resulted in 18 bags and after sorting more fabrics not suitable for patchwork quilts, end result being 47.

In the past couple of years we have donated many quilts, made 24 turbans for breast cancer patients, 350 placemats as Christmas gifts for clients of our local Meals on Wheels, 45 bedrunners for extension of a Nursing Home, and each year have an Art Union. The  proceeds of our 2016 Art Union resulted in over $7000  given to our local Hospice. This year, proceeds of our Art Union will go to Smart Pups, to support training of  Labrador puppies to assist children with disabilities.

So, with workshops and group projects tutored by very generous and talented members,  an annual Exhibition in  September and occasional coach trips to Quilt Shows, we are a very busy Club. Have recently had our Cuppa for Cancer, raising about $1200. We have also just recently assisted the Lismore Quilting Club who lost all when floods swept through their meeting place some weeks ago. This week we hosted a very talented tutor, Michele Hill from Adelaide over two days with an open day for her trunk show which resulted in approx. 220 people enjoying viewing her handiwork.

We decided that this quilt was far too nice to go on one person's bed so we have sent it off to hang on the wall in a communal room where there are a small group of Aussies embedded with other nations.
